Motherhood; as witnessed from the one and only Elizabeth Naze (my mother and best friend).

I will never understand the responsibilities of a mother until I become one. I do not have the rights to explain or talk about the demands of motherhood because I have never borne children or even been pregnant before, but I can tell you what I've learnt from my mum. I can share with you some of the things I have learnt from consciously/subconsciously watching her. Photo: Elizabeth Naze (my mum) Ever since I reached the age of comprehension; since I began to see, move, talk, eat, play and dance, I've always SEEN my mother. Elizabeth Ngunan Sati, now Elizabeth Ngunan Isaac Naze, is the perfect representative of motherhood . There are other mothers out there like her of course, but I can only talk about her because she's the one that's MINE. Photograph of I and my mum in 2022 As a child, I needed extra attention in all aspects of my life. I needed extra attention emotionally, academically, spiritually, mentally and even physically. I used to be a ...

Dress the way you want to be addressed: 2021/2022 session AMCOMS Congress

The 2021/2022 session has seen great setbacks, and even right now, many will agree that it's still ‘walking’ on eggshells. Having resumed sometime in October from the ASUU strike, the Mass Communication department of the university of Jos, held her long overdue welcome special on Friday, the 30th of November, for her current new students. Immediately after the welcome special which ended successfully, the association held her annual Congress which began at 1:25pm.    The Secretary-General; Ebule Margaret-Mary, presided over the meeting.  Opening prayer was said by one representative each from the Christian and Muslim community of the association.     At about 1:47pm, the meeting began proper. The Secretary-General apologised for the unavailability of the minutes of the last Congress, she said “ we are very sorry but the minute of the last minute is not in our possession but with the H.O.D who's cur...

Vibes and blood of Jesus

You're entitled to your own beliefs and ideologies. You have the right to speech, right to freedom of expression, right to life and so on. The only thing I am saying on behalf of so many other people is, do not abuse these rights .  Why am I bringing this up?  Lately, it's been bugging my mind how I have to walk the face of this earth and meet/interact with people who have barbaric beliefs and values. It's hit me so hard and I've been dreading another one-on-one face-off with one of such people.     It's no big deal that we all do not like soft bread, I mean, I understand how a normal human being can refuse to eat soft bread and freshly prepared beans. What I cannot understand is how some people refuse to allow themselves be HUMAN BEINGS with feelings. No feeling of anguish, no feeling of sympathy or empathy, no feeling of PITY! It's really disheartening.    For so many weeks now, I've juggled a lot of ways to put my thoughts on this out and...

Reviewing the movie LOCKDOWN: More than a one-time watch.

Heyy, remember what you read in my bio?  Do you perhaps remember seeing REVIEWS? Here's the start of that part of this space.    Movies are a big part of entertainment in our society today, they play very vital roles too e.g, informing, educating and of course, ENTERTAINING the audience. If you don't read books, you definitely watch movies. Even though you're not a movie person, there are some blockbusters you definitely cannot resist.  Gift Daboer has something to tell us. LOCKDOWN MOVIE This is actually a movie that was released in 2021, It’s 2022 I’m definitely a bit late than I would want to be, well it was released on Netflix in August 2022. Overall, the movie took the plot of the lockdown that happened in the year 2020. The world was shaken by the corona virus or as we know it; Covid-19. As a result, the lockdown was imposed on a huge chunk of the world. It also took a dramatic twist in relation to the Ebola virus that was brought into Nigeria by a ...

The uniqueness of the Girl Child. “Our time is now- our rights, our future”.

The Girl Child In frame: my little sister  Photo credit: Google chrome  Photo credit: Google chrome         The world in her enormity, can boast of diverse cultures, languages, food, great countries, e.t.c,. Her great countries can boast of superiority in terms of development, but sex? Sex (male and female) exist to unify and equalise countries, both great and small.  Luckily for 2nd and 3rd world countries, 1st world countries can boast of superiority in everything but when it comes to people, everyone has a say.     Happy International Day of the Girl Child to all the girls who can read this and to all the girls connected to you in one way or the other.    It's the 10th anniversary of the International Day of the Girl Child celebration and for those who do not know the purpose of this day in the calendar, “International Day of the Girl Child is an international observance day decl...

Favour market (good and bad luck)

You can't be new to a place and go straight to the market on your own. Of course you need some time before you find it on your own or get someone to direct you.    DO NOT learn to disrespect people from others. I'll explain what I mean. People behave differently with people. This thing Nigerians say, ‘ our blood no just jam’ is a valid explanation for this.  You'll meet certain people and you'll instantly like them and vice versa. You'll find someone being rude to someone and getting away with it and feel you shouldn't give that person any respect too, but that's a wrong way to look at things. We must understand that people have their own ideas and thoughts about certain behaviors portrayed by different humans. Just like falling in love with a boy/girl, you find that you love something about him/her but you can't exactly explain what.  You may have a certain character trait that has mostly favoured you and then one day it doesn't.  Someti...

The number one ingredient for growth in entrepreneurship is ‘you'.

Why lose it all when you can get more than you envisioned in the beginning? Photo: Google chrome Photo: Google chrome Yes, you call the shots; you're the umpire.    My mum would always tell us when we're being lazy and refusing to do chores around the house, that “even if you employ a hundred and one helpers in your house, it can only be the way you want it to be when you show those helpers that you know what you're doing and they're only there for extra help and to earn their keep”. That way, even when they want to do something that's wrong in your abscence, they'll be scared to do it because they know you'll notice it soon as you return.     I saw the post below on Facebook and it took my mind to something I'd been wondering about. Photo: a screenshot from a post on Facebook When you open a business, is your aim to make money for just a period of time? What even drove you to start? Someone said, “ if money is your only d...

Wrong signs and miscommunication: you can be less judgemental.

Heisss. You're walking and you hear this but refuse to turn and keep walking. Or ssssss. Meanwhile, this young man is trying to communicate to you that something of yours has just fallen, or worse, your zipper is open. Wrong signs . Of course, everyone knows that catcalling is a stupid sign men use in a bid to get a fine girl's attention, but it's also like the only way someone on the street who doesn't know your name can get your attention to something.         Dear Angel of God here on earth, judgement day will reach everybody, so there's no need to set up your table now. - Dyed/tinted hair: Until recently, I had a bad perception about people dyeing/tinting their original hair colours to dirty brown, yellow, pink, blue, green, and especially RED. I saw this very beautiful picture of someone's natural hair that looks just like mine, tinted partly to light brown that I'd totally rock one of these days. I had the idea that anyone dyeing their hai...

Using one stone to kill many birds

Have you ever heard the phrase ‘hunger na bad thing' before? I'm going to use this one phrase to touch so many areas. Come, walk with me 🌚 You'll always hear people warn against begging the wrong people for things because they're very likely to rub it in your face or use it against you. Have you ever asked someone for something in desperation and later regretted it? People say, God will never allow me see shame but this life has its ups and downs and it's not even funny. ADULTHOOD NA SCAM! Do you believe this? I do. On the 29th of May, 2022 (Children's Day), if you read my post, you'll understand that I actually wrote from a place of longing and pain. Pain stemming from the fact that I can no longer get everything I want just by simply asking. I have to have my own money most times to get it. Since when did I begin to buy milk by myself? It seems really unbelievable that it's been ages since I was five (5) years old.  ...

Friendship languages: how much do you understand?

You're always complaining that your friends aren't there for you, you think they aren't concerned about you enough. You're always asking for attention and not getting it. Have you thought that maybe you're asking the wrong people or asking the wrong way?    Just as there are love languages, I have also discovered that we may have friendship languages too. This happened after I decided to stop asking this particular friend of mine to call me on the phone regularly. This decision came from a place of pain but I had time to think and I later realized that I just wanted to be treated better. I took time to reminisce on other times he had been there for me and I finally saw the problem. I'll take you through some languages I discovered recently and you can add yours after you've understood my point.    “ A friend is a person with whom one has a bond of mutual affection, typically one exclusive of sexual or family relations". There are ...

Mimi's 10th birthday: A brief rundown of the star Mimi is.

You can never do excellently in raising children, can you? Maybe you've seen a pattern that worked for some others but how do you know it'll work for you?  It's Mimi's birthday today and the only unspoken fear in our minds is,‘ hope we're doing it right '        Mimi has a routine for everyday she wakes up. Her life is pretty simple. Right from the day she knew that it was her right to be loved, she doesn't shy away from seeking attention. She cries at any inconvenience, she demands things and gets them and most importantly, she's a BUG! Arrghhh. It's very weird that she wakes up before everybody except on school and church days 😂 first to wake up during the holidays and weekends and guess why? I was talking about her routine before I deviated. Lol, soon as she wakes, she brushes her teeth and goes straight to the dinning table where her provisions are kept. She usually has a variety of options- my mummy makes sure of it. She...
