Reviewing the movie LOCKDOWN: More than a one-time watch.

Heyy, remember what you read in my bio?  Do you perhaps remember seeing REVIEWS? Here's the start of that part of this space.
Movies are a big part of entertainment in our society today, they play very vital roles too e.g, informing, educating and of course, ENTERTAINING the audience. If you don't read books, you definitely watch movies. Even though you're not a movie person, there are some blockbusters you definitely cannot resist.
Gift Daboer has something to tell us.

LOCKDOWN MOVIE
This is actually a movie that was released in 2021, It’s 2022 I’m definitely a bit late than I would want to be, well it was released on Netflix in August 2022. Overall, the movie took the plot of the lockdown that happened in the year 2020. The world was shaken by the corona virus or as we know it; Covid-19. As a result, the lockdown was imposed on a huge chunk of the world. It also took a dramatic twist in relation to the Ebola virus that was brought into Nigeria by a foreigner traveling in from Liberia, who on his way to his meeting felt feverish and asked his driver to take him to the nearest hospital, as a result the virus was spread to a few individuals in the hospital. It’s called the ‘holo’ virus in the movie, it shows how quick thinking medical teams will need to quarantine any potential spread of a virus that could potentially affect many people. Credit is being given to Nigerian medical doctor, Ameyo Adadevoh for the immense role he played in curbing the wider spread of the Ebola virus.
The situation brought together 6 foreigners who had to be in the hospital for various reasons. A lady who needed medical reports urgently for her job interview, a groom and his bestfriend who witnessed a hit and run where a little girl was involved and was left helpless, despite their lateness to the wedding and refusal of the bestman, the groom insisted they took the girl to a hospital. A delivery man who had to deliver a parcel directly to a doctor who was on duty in the hospital, a young man who had just won the lottery while celebrating had a fan injury on his arm, thus had to go to a hospital after being rejected at a pharmacy. At the hospital a few staff including doctors and nurses were also isolated together for 21 days, a rather unfortunate situation of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
There was a woman who had to go into labor early whose husband was stuck on the outside, somehow he made his way inside to be with his wife. I would tag it a ‘Comedy drama’ I had a good laugh while watching many scenes, the turn of events were relatable in many instances, there were also emotional scenes that made my eyes water, one that had me in my feelings was the nurse whose shift had ended, but another nurse begged her to run her shift for some money (N10, 000) she accepted, unfortunately she was caught up in the fire and her fate was a rather unfortunate one. Overall, it was a worthy watch-  intense and quite captivating, earlier I mentioned it was quite relatable, the producers had a way of reeling viewers in and creatively connecting characters and their various urgent needs that landed them in the hospital, you would smile, cry through smiles (if you feel deeply like me) or feel nothing at all. (LOL). The movie was directed by Moses Inwang, it featured veteran actors like Late Ada Ameh, Omotola Jalade, Sola Sobowale, Charles Awurum, Tony Umez and Chioma Akpotha. Other actors in this psychological thriller are Ini Dima Okojie, Bamike Olawunmi, Chinonso Arubayi, Deyemi Okanlawon, Jide Kene, Josh2funny and others.
Many might tag it the usual Nollywood cliché standard where you can tell the ending from the start or somewhere in the movie, this assertion may be true, and might apply to this movie as well, but the turn of events in the end made the ending beautiful and somewhat unexpected, it did not end well for every one of the characters, but it did end in a way that created a balance between good and bad news or events.
Have you seen Lockdown?

A Year of Service, A Lifetime of Lessons

Service, friendship, growth They say life is in stages- I agree. But if I hadn’t passed through the challenges that came with NYSC and made it to this point, I’d probably still be in comatose, asking God “Why me?” Before graduation, my friends; Lucy, Kyen, Melody, and I, discussed where we’d love to be posted for service. We’d done the entire four (technically six) years of university together, so it only made sense to plan to do life after school together, or at least close enough. We compared dreams, and they basically aligned. Little did we know. You know, when you’re in a particular stage of life and preparing for its end, the only logical thing to do is to dream of better, to stay optimistic, because faith, among other things, teaches us to believe that there’s always better ahead. Camp was the experience. I’d attended boarding school and even gone to camp as a junior cadet back in secondary school. I remember an endurance trek we went on one morning that nearly rendered my legs i...

Dare to dream- you are more than the figure you see in the mirror.

In one episode of Young Sheldon, Sheldon asked the librarian what her religion was because he was learning about different religions in order to find the one he liked better. She said her religion teaches that when people die they go their own planets but women have to go to their husband's planet, except her because she's single.    In all 23 years of my life, I have battled with people's different beliefs in relation to love, respect and ambitions. It's been a tough and conflicting battle on what to belief as right or not. I have made my own assumptions and research based on what I've been taught intentionally and I believe at this point, I have the right standing.     The argument about God's intention when he took a rib out of man to create woman is one that can put one's brain in a turmoil. Did God mean for a woman to only be a helpmate and not have her own identity? Did he instruct Adam to be fruitful, multiply and subdue the earth by himself?   ...
