The changing tune of the uncertainty of life.

For a while now, I'd been complaining to everyone who cared to listen, of my writer's block- how I've had no motivation to write at all. Yesterday, after a series of similar sad stories in the past months, the story of my friend losing his friend to a sad death broke the ice. I wrote this to help with some of my heart's tension. Life is fickle Its uncertainties sweep me off my feet in recent times, more than I have anticipated. Lately, I've been contemplating ‘the end’ more than I'd like Before now, I used to think that I was unafraid of the inevitability of death. If dying means going back home Home where I won't have to drag my feet to wake up mandatorily at 6am to pray and go on to make breakfast/lunch for my working class parents and little sister  Home, where I can sleep for hours in the daytime uninterrupted by people or headaches from the heat Before now, I'd accepted death as what it is, ‘inevitable’ Lately, I find that I'm getting more th...

Memoir of my time at the university of Jos: everything I did wrong before I found the right footing.

THE END OF THE BEGINNING “Struggle teaches you a lot of things, and I am happy that I witnessed a rollercoaster ride. The journey has improved me as a person, and made me more mature”.    Hey, this is more of an exposé and it's especially dedicated to students who may have made some mistakes already, and to also help prevent you from making some which may seem unavoidable but are in fact, silly mistakes when you advance and look back.     It's been 6 years of bearing the title ‘student’ and now, after so many nights of reading and praying, crying through confusions, fears and deadlines, I can finally take a bow and add a feather of success to my cap. To say it was a journey would not be an understatement, because a journey can be smooth, bumpy, slow, fast, jolly, boring, unexpected or planned.  This journey of 4 years with an EP definitely contained a bit of all of the above-mentioned, and since I've overcome, I'll gladly pen down my struggles and achievements ...

My final AMCOMS WEEK experience

Initially, I planned to make an effort to attend, but at the end of the first day, I knew I was definitely coming back EFFORTLESSLY! Here's a breakdown of the AMCOMS week from my POV.    The AMCOMS WEEK, 2023, kick-started on Monday, the 15th of May, 2023, with a ‘quiz competition’ and afterwards, football matches between 100 level and 300 level female and male students of the department.  Before the official start of the quiz competition, we had a few activities like music and dance from some members of the crowd to liven up the hall. A lot of challenging questions about the department, current affairs, celebrity gist, e.t.c, were asked during the quiz, but the contestants gave impressive answers.  At the end of the quiz competition, the 300 level class emerged winners with 200 and 100 levels coming 2nd and 3rd respectively. Afterwards, some aspirants of the department and FASA were given the stage to address the public for 5 minutes each and recharge pi...

Love yourself, too.

It's somewhat hard to love ourselves in the ways we should, because of course, it's us. We don't put in the extra efforts we put into loving others into loving ourselves, why? “Self-love is a state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions that support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth. Self-love means having a high regard for your own well-being and happiness. Self-love means taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your well-being to please others.” Photo: harrirose.com https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.harrirose.com/blog/2020/you-can-love-someone-else-more-than-yourself%3fpage=all&format=amp  Harri Rose has said so many valid things about ‘why we love others more than ourselves’, you'd find it helpful so click the link above to read.  I realised that I've saved money in the past to give to people or make others birthdays and important events memorable more than I've done for myself. It's easier ...

You are the game master;set the boards towards lasting happiness.

“The life of inner peace, being harmonious and without stress, is the easiest type of existence.”  Photo: Agnes Naze on WhatsApp Forgiveness, like good people would always preach, is mainly for ourselves. Sometimes when people hurt us, we're convinced that we'll never be able to forgive and forget it because of how badly it hurt us. Has anybody ever done something to you that was so bad you felt the hurt moving from your chest to your mouth? Sometimes you're too numb to breath, your chest too stiff to beat without causing physical pain, and sometimes, your eyes too painful to contain tears. I've been hurt badly on ‘too many for my own good’ occasions, but I've hurt people too; intentionally and otherwise. I knew that saying something a certain way would inflict emotional pain, but I said it. I've known that refusing to say something would leave room for doubt and inferiority, but I didn't say it. I've liked people and when things were going s...

Motherhood; as witnessed from the one and only Elizabeth Naze (my mother and best friend).

I will never understand the responsibilities of a mother until I become one. I do not have the rights to explain or talk about the demands of motherhood because I have never borne children or even been pregnant before, but I can tell you what I've learnt from my mum. I can share with you some of the things I have learnt from consciously/subconsciously watching her. Photo: Elizabeth Naze (my mum) Ever since I reached the age of comprehension; since I began to see, move, talk, eat, play and dance, I've always SEEN my mother. Elizabeth Ngunan Sati, now Elizabeth Ngunan Isaac Naze, is the perfect representative of motherhood . There are other mothers out there like her of course, but I can only talk about her because she's the one that's MINE. Photograph of I and my mum in 2022 As a child, I needed extra attention in all aspects of my life. I needed extra attention emotionally, academically, spiritually, mentally and even physically. I used to be a ...

Dress the way you want to be addressed: 2021/2022 session AMCOMS Congress

The 2021/2022 session has seen great setbacks, and even right now, many will agree that it's still ‘walking’ on eggshells. Having resumed sometime in October from the ASUU strike, the Mass Communication department of the university of Jos, held her long overdue welcome special on Friday, the 30th of November, for her current new students. Immediately after the welcome special which ended successfully, the association held her annual Congress which began at 1:25pm.    The Secretary-General; Ebule Margaret-Mary, presided over the meeting.  Opening prayer was said by one representative each from the Christian and Muslim community of the association.     At about 1:47pm, the meeting began proper. The Secretary-General apologised for the unavailability of the minutes of the last Congress, she said “ we are very sorry but the minute of the last minute is not in our possession but with the H.O.D who's cur...
